Development Progress

The ongoing development has been hard to miss as the park has made impressive progress over the past 18 months or so. Accessed just off the R25 Bapsfontein offramp which gives it convenient access to the freeway, and located in Kempton Park, its almost midway between Johannesburg and Pretoria and just 12 minutes from OR Tambo.

The R21, commonly referred to as the ‘R21 corridor’ because of its link between the two major cities, has seen significant growth over the large few years largely due to its popularity with logistics operations.

Eastport itself plans to house 500 000m² of prime warehousing to its tenants once complete. The first warehouse to be developed was tenant driven and became home to Savino del Bene who were previously based in Jet Park. Another warehouse was built almost simultaneously on spec and later was taken up by Teralco Logistics. The next tenant to commit was Clippa Sales and their facility is fast nearing completion and clearly visible from the freeway now.

Design Specifications

Reasons aiding to the park’s success are the infrastructure and quality design, as well as the high specs offered, which include:

  • 9 lane access and egress
  • 15m eave heights
  • FM2 jointless flooring
  • 12t point load
  • 24 hour access controlled security
  • Fully sprinkled with pumps and tanks on site
  • 40m deep yards for superlink articulation

The market is seeing a growing trend of users moving away from the older style warehouse facilities to the newer, higher spec facilities, even though they are at a premium, because of these specific advantages that they offer.

Current exciting opportunities in the Eastport Logistics Park development include two warehouses, Spec Warehouse 2 and Spec Warehouse 3, being built on spec that are almost complete and ready for occupation in March/April.
